Toxic Swaps
using Essential Oils & More

I don't consider myself "crunchy", just health conscious. I've had several health issues, so I have been slowly eliminating toxic products from our home, and introducing more health conscious choices. Honestly, our world is just toxic. Sadly, toxins are allowed in products and foods, because it makes money.  It's incredibly difficult to eliminate every single toxic thing from our world. But, there are a few easy changes we can make.

Air Fresheners ----> Diffusers
Add a few drops of 100%  essential oils to a diffuser every morning and evening to keep your home smelling fresh. I use Thieves during sick season. I also love Eucalyptus Mint for bathrooms, and Tangerine for boys bathroom. There are several other blends you can find on Pinterest.

Cleaning Sprays-----> Thieves cleaner in amber spray bottles
You don't have to use amber spray bottles, but they are my favorite. Thieves will clean anything and everything! You won't need anything else.
You can find Thieves HERE.

Laundry Freshener Beads-----> DIY Laundry Freshener
Mix 2:1 ratio of baking soda and epsom salt, and a few drops of your favorite scent essential oil. Store in glass jar.
Use 1/3 C per load with wash.

Dryer Sheets---->Wool Dryer Balls
Add a few drops of essential oil to dryer balls before adding it to the load in dryer.
Sore in Glass Container.

Bath Salts ----> DIY Epson Salt
You have to be careful and read ingredients because most of the time "fragrance" is added to epsom salt instead of 100% essential oil. Its best to make your own.
Add a 10-20 drops of oil to salt. Store in glass container.
Add a cup or two to your bath. I like lavender or eucalyptus mint blend.
Store in glass container.

Plastic leftover/storage containers ----> Glass or Steel containers
Plastics have been proven to contain BPA's that are harmful to us. Although most companies have created BPA free products, there have been studies that have shown plastics in general have been harmful. Heating food in plastics has also been proven to transfer harmful chemicals to our foods.
You can find ideas HERE

Aluminum Foil & Plastic Wrap -----> Beeswax paper
Aluminum has been proven to be harmful to us in serious ways. It can be transferred to our food and our bodies. As I shared above, plastics are harmful to us all well.
You can find it HERE

Plastic Baggies ----> BeesWax Wrap
BeesWax is a healthy alternative to the harmful, convenient use of baggies.
You can find ideas HERE.

Tap Water ----> Filtered Water
Contaminants have been found in all tap water. Fluoride is also added to some areas. Fluoride has been proven very harmful. A water filter for your faucet or a stand alone filter system is best. You can find ideas HERE

Plastic Cups ----> Steel or glass cups
As stated above, plastics are harmful.
Try THESE alternatives

Common Toothpaste ----> Thieves toothpaste
Fluoride has been added to most common toothpastes.
Find alternatives HERE

Sedentary Life ----> Exercise
Exercise sweats out toxins from our bodies. You can go for a walk, bike, hike a trail, do body weight exercises, play basketball with your kids, etc...

Paper Towels ----> Reusable towels
Paper waste is filling our landfills, but it's also harming our environment.
THESE reusable towels are a great alternative.

Paper Plates -----> Ceramic plates
Paper plates are a great convenience, but it's also filling our landfills like paper towels. For a large family like ours, it's very convenient. But, with the habit of cleaning dishes as you go, it's really not a difficult change in lifestyle.
THESE are the plate we use.

Laundry Detergent ----> Laundry Sheets/Balls
Most liquid laundry soap is filled with harmful "fragrances" and chemicals. I have found THESE great for alternatives.
My homemade recipes is HERE
Dispenser HERE

Trying to change all at once can be overwhelming. Start with one a month and see how much you enjoy it!
