My Little Dirtbikers

Posted by Holly Nelson on Thursday, January 28, 2010 Under: It's a BOYS Life!
In yesterdays Valentine's post I mentioned how my kids are obsessed with dirt biking. I thought I'd share a little bit about that. Ump-teen years ago when I met my husband, he had a broken leg from a hair-scramble(trail race through the woods) accident. Little did I know that years later we would have boys involved in t he same sport that caused him to break his leg! When we had our first son, he was as wild as a boy could be. He was very active, did not watch any cartoons or any TV really. The only thing that would calm him down was to watch a dirt biking video. And thats when it all began. By the age of three we gave him his first dirt bike, one handed down generations from the family. Then for his kindergarten graduation, we didn't just take him out for ice cream to celebrate. Oh no! My husband went all out and got him a KTM 50. Everything was great until I had a horrible accident at my parents house on that thing. That is really another story on it's own. Let's just say I almost hit the calf pin, and was very close to a wooded drop off. It was not a good thing. I thought I broke my legs, thankfully I didn't. So fast forward a few years. My hubby decided they all needed new dirt bikes a few years ago for Christmas. So, we splurge and much to their extreme excitement, they were given brand new dirt bike on Christmas morning.  Jeff has used the back 2 acres of our property to slowly transform it into a dirt bike track for the boys. Most of the beautiful weekend days, we will be out back for the boys to ride. In the summer, think of us, out back on the track.
Now to give a shout out and brag on someone that will never brag on himself. My oldest son, Ryan, is good friends with Mathew Weakley. When we met him a few years ago he told Ryan, "yeah, I dirt bike, too". Little did we know just how much he did! The first time I went to his house , his room was filled and over flowing with trophies and pictures of him! Oh yeah, he knew how to dirt bike alright! Such a sweet a humble child!
Here are a few picture of the boys and their bikes:
